Second intangible: the need for right models

Right role models that show the entrepreneurial success are not theories, but a necessity. When risk capital is combined with novel ideas, the result is success for a few people, who become the new right role models. When right models of successful innovative entrepreneurial projects exist in society, more and more people is prone to see entrepreneurial projects as a way of professional success.

But, how can we construct right models in University that are a reference to our students? We need to do this since we must develop in our students the skills needed to be an enterprising person.

Regarding engineering education, I propose encouraging our students to think in business terms. One way to do this is by including the development of technological business plans as a part of the exercises of current technological subjects. The objective is to make students put their technological knowledge in business terms; they learn technology because they are putting it into practice and, at the same time, they feel the glory of being a successful entrepreneur themselves.

After this first step, students should be fostered to develop technological business plans for submission to one of the many business ideas contests suitable for students. When one of them becomes successful other will be motivated to try it too.

¿What do you think of developing technological business plans as a part of the practical exercises of a technical subject from a university degree? What other ideas should be appropriate for obtaining the right models construction goal?
